The way people live their lives and the way they feel doesn’t always line up into mutually exclusive boxes. Sometimes women, for example, can only imagine themselves partnering with, or being romantically involved with, men and yet they feel sexually attracted to some women. Does that make them lesbian? Straight? Bisexual?
I felt this way after hearing about Billy Lucas’ suicide and Justin Aberg’s before him this summer in Minnesota. The reaction as a gay adult is always, “God, I wish I could have talked to that kid and just be able to tell him it gets better,” but knowing you would never get permission; knowing you would never be invited to talk to these kids.
