Bryant Paul, associate professor at Indiana University and researcher working with law, sex in the media, and evolutionary psychology, recommends reading Matt Ridley’s The Red Queen: Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature:

“This book was originally suggested to me by Donald Symons, the author of The Evolution of Human Sexuality.  It is a very approachable and well-written exploration of the evolutionary psychology of sexual selection.  It is the book that first helped me realize that studying the social and psychological effects of mediated sexual content is best undertaken by first considering the likely selective pressures and resulting development of cognitive structures through which we are forced to process that content.”
