Sex educator Hernando Chaves recommends reading Jay Wiseman’s SM 101: A Realistic Introduction What They Are Reading: Hernando Chaves.

“SM 101 is a wonderful beginner’s guide to important SM concepts such as basic terminology, safety, consent, negotiation, and BDSM play. This book is for anyone interested in learning the do’s and don’ts of the kink world. From clinicians and educators to experts and novices, Wiseman’s book is filled with useful information, practical advice, and provides a firm introductory foundation to understanding what it means to be safe, sane, and consensual. Although at times a bit dry and not the sexiest book I’ve read on kink, sometimes you have to eat your vegetables before you can have dessert.”

Dr. Chaves is the conference co-chairperson for the 2011 SSSS Western Region Meeting in San Francisco, a human sexuality professor, and kink-aware sexologist in Beverly Hills, CA.
