Happy Valentine’s Day

There are many stories and myths related to the origins of Valentine’s Day and only a bit of documented history.

Valentine’s Day Origins

One such legend suggests that Valentine was the name of a priest who performed marriage ceremonies for men and women, in part to help young men avoid having to leave their loved ones behind to join Emperor Claudius II’s Roman army. In prison, it is said that he fell in love with a young women and, when put to death on February 14, left her a letter that said in closing “From your Valentine.”
